The Barbados Jazz Festival has been bringing together some of the best jazz musicians to perform in Barbados. Jazz luminaries such as Roberta Flack, Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander and Tito Puente have all been a part of this 'Jazz in the Sun' festival. What is perhaps even more special about this event is the fact that the Jazz Festival provides a stage for the many talented, young jazz musicians from Barbados and the rest of the Caribbean to showcase their talents. It also gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy great jazz. The SUNSHINE Awards™ applauds the Barbados Jazz Festival for creating an environment in the Caribbean that encourages the appreciation of great music. This Festival adds to the Caribbean experience. It brings diversity to the already rich music scene. It allows the many visitors who yearly visit the Caribbean to add to the cultural experiences they already enjoy. The islands are, after all, much more than beautiful beaches. The Festival encourages young jazz musicians to explore and develop their own jazz expression and, in so doing, enrich the musical experience of the Caribbean region. Nicholas Brancker, Ricky Skeete and Arturo Tappin are some of the local talents who have contributed to the success of the Festival. The Festival is produced by GMR International Tours, Inc., which is committed to keeping this event a "People's Festival", where it is accessible to anyone who loves good music. The SUNSHINE Awards™ commends the Barbados Jazz Festival for its commitment to the enrichment of the Caribbean cultural and musical experience and wishes the Festival all success when it celebrates its 8th Anniversary on 8-14 January, 200l. The 12th Annual SUNSHINE Awards™ will take place on 21 October at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center at the Borough of Manhattan Community College.
