CLICO JOINS THE CARIBBEAN SUNSHINE AWARDS

Teaneck, New Jersey, USA, Sept 7th 2004….The SUNSHINE Awards™ organization today issued the following statement:

By Kanchan Gilfillian
With the Sixteenth Annual Caribbean Sunshine Awards only two months away, the awards organizers are busy getting preparations underway for this year’s awards program. In keeping with its tradition, the 2004 Caribbean Sunshine Awards has been given a theme, which reflects the organization’s philosophy. This year’s theme is “One Caribbean – One Family.”

According to Gil Figaro, Sr., Founder and Chairman of the Caribbean Sunshine Awards, “The theme of the 2004 Awards reflects the very nature of the Caribbean Sunshine Awards. Not only are we fully committed to promoting, preserving and perpetuating the rich and diverse art forms of the Caribbean, but we are also equally committed to promoting friendship, respect, and a feeling of family among our English, Spanish, French and Portuguese-speaking brothers and sisters.”

With fifteen years already under its belt, the Caribbean Sunshine Awards has firmly established itself as an organization committed to recognizing the talented creators, performers and promoters of Caribbean art forms. The consistently high quality of this annual awards program has also earned itself the support and respect of the Caribbean community. It is, therefore, no surprise that the 2004 Awards has gained the support and commitment of the Caribbean corporate giant, The Colonial Life Insurance Company (Trinidad) Limited (CLICO), which joins the Caribbean Sunshine Awards as its major Platinum sponsor.

CLICO is well established as a socially conscious organization, which prides itself on its commitment, not only with its financial responsibilities to people of the Caribbean, but also to its social responsibilities, with support for programs and activities which help to enhance the quality of citizens’ lives.

Its support for community activities, education and for the Arts is not limited to Trinidad and Tobago or the Caribbean region, but also extends to Caribbean-American communities. It is this sense of commitment to the Caribbean family, exhibited by CLICO, which Figaro finds particularly impressive and appealing, and he says, “The Caribbean Sunshine Awards is, of course, very excited to have CLICO join with us as the major Platinum sponsor. CLICO is an organization whose track record of excellence and commitment to the Caribbean community speaks for itself. Our organization applauds CLICO’s strong support for Caribbean culture, and we are happy to have them join the Caribbean Sunshine Awards family. We are very pleased to be partnering with such an innovative, solid and visionary company.”

As an indigenous Caribbean company set on globalization, CLICO is making strides into the international market offering the world competitive interest rates, exceptional service, and convenient channels to transact business. In the coming weeks, the company will be launching its e-commerce website (clico.com) which will afford persons interested in growing their finances the opportunity to purchase superior products online.

At the Sixteenth Annual Caribbean Sunshine Awards, which will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Sheraton New York Hotel in New York City, the Caribbean Sunshine Awards will present CLICO with its 2004 Corporate Award in recognition of its contribution to Caribbean society.

The 2004 Awards will also pay tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Brown versus the Board of Education decision, which fully opened the doors of education in the United States, through which many children of the Caribbean and of Caribbean parentage have successfully passed.

The Caribbean Sunshine Awards and the Colonial Life Insurance Company (Trinidad) Limited will hold a press conference in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, to publicly announce CLICO’s participation and the nominees for the Sixteenth Annual Caribbean Sunshine Awards.

Tickets for the Awards can be obtained through the Caribbean Sunshine Awards office at 201-836-0799, Fax 201-836-4440 or the website www.sunshineawards.com. Sponsors of the 2004 Awards are CLICO, Hennessy, the Brooklyn Public Library, Discovery Channel, The New York Carib News, BWIA, Air Jamaica, Travel Span Vacations, and RumJungle.
